The whole point of free speech is not to make ideas exempt from criticism but to expose them to it.

Caption contest

This scene is unavoidable for me. It offends the hillside about 100 feet from Highway 40 where I drive by it every time I head home from Hermosa heading west.

The person who wins the contest to caption this photo wins an iced mocha coffee with me at Dunn Bros., or an equivalent prize of their choice. This might apply particularly to a person who lives more than a few feet from Dunn Bros., or who wants to stay more than a few feet from me.

Monday, Sept. 13: Just 24 hours left to send your entry! Here's my caption...

"Sure stopped the vampires from using this spot for hill-climb practice."

Please don't let me win with that weak-assed suggestion. But it does beat out Ellis, finally. :--))

Winner to be announced in the morning.

Seems like either at the mouth of
Boulder Canyon or just before New Underwood westbound I-90, there was a sign that said, "United Church of Chris" and in my Far Side mind the next sign should have read something like, "United Church of Bob" or "Assemblies of Larry."

How about: "Christ died so my cattle and I can shit in your yard." Or, "T is for Terracide."

He who hates me hates my Father as well. (John 15:23)

If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. (John 15:19)

Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. (John 3:20)

This is so unfair. I'm Hindu.

"disses" No shit. The goddess smiles.

After a summer of daily prayer and work constructing a devotional totem, Burger the cow knew he would be saved. He was slaughtered the next day.

Wow Bob no truer words have ever come from your mouth. Do you travel at night? Do you try to never look directly into the sun? Have you sucked the life out of everyone around you?

You give those that are truly religious a bad name.

Sorry about that. I was supposed to post about the rock cross. Well looked at one way it is a religious symbol, from another it is a threat to the welfare of the grass it has been laid on. Or it might just be a stockpile of rocks to throw at cars. Who knows?

Caption in Bob Ellis's honor... a little slightly altered scripture:

Thought balloon on cowboy reading bible on horseback:

"Hmm, sez here there wuz giants in the earth in them days... recon a fella otta bury 'em proper. Um hm."

Bill Fleming said...

Cowboy to horse: "I don't know about you Winny, but I'm feelin' kinda cross."

Okay, 2 more and that's it, I promise.

Cow: "Om."
Cowboy: "Heathen!"
Cow: "No, lysdexic."

Cowboy: "I just love makin' Newland cross. Ker,ker, ker."

Have you heard the news? Hey, get back here. Don't make me rope you.

I've tried to combine dyslexia and get along little doggie, but haven't been able to make it work.

Bob Newland said...

At the moment, Ellis is in the lead. How we gonna work this out?

larry kurtz said...

Fleming, of course you meant, "Oom."

Lefty, I Coulda swore there was a "t" like this on a hill near Tombstone.

denature said...

Don't eat me, I'm irreducibly complex.

But everyone said feedlots were a hoax perpetrated by Al Gore.

At last, we've found Curly's gold.

Lefty had trouble getting a point a cross to his itinerant cow.

Faith-based ranching never quite had success in marketplace.

Carnak says, rocks, a cross, the range. What was the less successful followup to hands across America?

denature said...

It took the wisdom of Solomon to decide what to do with the rift in the Rapid City Tea Party. Lefty's group got the T.

Honey, does this cross make my ego look too big?

There was some miscommunication in providing the specs to Borglum in sculpting cross mountain.
