The whole point of free speech is not to make ideas exempt from criticism but to expose them to it.

so with Wright and Nordstrom defending progressive positions from the council will Kooiker be effectively neutered as mayor?

Good point Larry. Mr. Kooiker has never articulated a vision for Rapid City but indications are that his plans are far from progressive. His base won't permit it.

Let's hope for the Rapture before Sam takes office. What's to live for?

Bob Newland said...

Oh. Wait. The Rapture doesn't mean good news for me, I guess. There I go, running off at the half-cock again.

Aaah, but Wayne, maybe it is the man, not the plan.

As chair, mayor or president, is it not your duty to bring forth the plan from the council elected by the people to represent them?

I believe the voters of Rapid City will be heard and well represented by their council across all bases.

Congratulations Sam, be blessed.

My prediction: Unless Wright is just an a-hole, Sam will win him over by listening to him and taking his ideas seriously.

And Wayne, when Hanks won last time, I suggested that the world step back and give the man a chance to lead. Maybe you should consider doing the same.

Best coverage of RC politics, especially this race, was found on Decorum Forum.

Wayne;
Since you are a ward 2 resident, and you obviously have a vision, why dont you run for the vacancy. Hadcock is easy to beat. Meanwhile, share your vision.

If 70% of Rapid Citians didn't turn out to vote, why not just let the governor appoint a bureaublican to fill the position and take the heat?
How are these results a mandate to do anything?

BF said...

Larry, they're not.

Wayne Gilbert said...

Rick--would you be my campaign manager?

Les said...

Larry, these results are a mandate.

If you can't see the reason the whole works got an overhaul, Lord help you with vision because you've gone blind.

Rick K said...

wayne; no, but I would like to hear your vision, Seats open.

Rick K said...

Larry; "Voters" and "Rapid citians" are 2 entirely different numbers. There are thousands of registered voters that arent here anymore. Skews the numbers badly. The percentage of Rapid citians that vote is much higher than "voter turnout".

larry kurtz said...

So, the largest population growth in Rapid City is from the rez and they are largely discouraged from registering to vote, right?

Rick K said...

Who is discouraging them ?, I dont know if thats the case, I sure hope not.

But, once registered, at the mission for example. They stay a registered voter for about 10 years, here or not.

Bob Newland said...

Now, why would you suggest that Indians are "largely discouraged from registering to vote?"

larry kurtz said...

In Rapid City elections. They may have registered in home precincts and moved to town. I believe they are under registered on purpose.

tartly

and under represented on juries as a result.

Bob Newland said...

Who purposefully under-registers people who move to Rapid City? How do they go about it?

larry kurtz said...

How many times did you used to hit me up to register, Bob? I think i'm still on the rolls of the chemical toilet as a Libertarian. Why isn't there more of that being done?

Bob Newland said...

If you send me $100, Larry, I'll spend a day registering Indians at Lakota Homes and WalMart. If you don't send me $100, then the under-registration of Indians is obviously your fault.

larry kurtz said...

if you send two thousand to Bill Janklow's idea of public radio and if you run as a Democrat i'll go through District 30 to get you elected.

Bob Newland said...

YOU said, "Why isn't there more of that being done?" Not me.

larry kurtz said...

It's a shot at your readers who are sick of one party rule to shit or get off the pot. Our county Democrats are fired up about going to the rez and signing people up to vote. Remember when you were last fired up about politics, Bob?

Larry, Larry, Larry, the Crow alone should be enough for you to worry about. Don'tbe shape shifting on us now, Big Sky has yet to get her job done!

MIke--you're right. I have now officially finished sulking and pouting. Besides, I did vote for one winner.
