Several area newspapers are reporting that Dusty Johnson, who recently land-slided into a second six-year stint on the Public Utilities Commission will quit immediately after being sworn in and will serve as Governor-elect Dennis Daugaard's Chief of Staff.
Read the Journal's version here.
Daugaard will appoint a PUC replacement who will serve two years and then a special election will be held to replace Johnson.
I think the choice for COS is a good one, but a surprising one. I know there will be speculation that this was planned all along. Seems unlikely to me and would have been damned near impossible to keep a secret for very long.
