The whole point of free speech is not to make ideas exempt from criticism but to expose them to it.

Nice try, hemorrhoid head.

On April 19, I published a satirical post that apparently offended someone. Someone brought it to the attention of the Attorney General's office. That office called my probation officer and told him I had violated the terms of my probation ("...take no public role in any program for legalization...").

According to my probie, he told the AG that since the AG hadn't prosecuted the case, it was not up to the AG's office to make that determination. The AG then passed off the accusation to the Pennington County State's Attorney. That office considered the blog post for several days, but finally informed my probie that the post had not been ruled a violation. That held up the discharge process for a few days, resulting in premature celebration on the part of Mike Sanborn, who made posts (which I removed) about my discharge while things were still in the air. Incidentally, my probation officer treated me pretty decently during our professional relationship.

I don't know who dropped a dime on me, not that it surprises me that someone did. This is, after all, a public forum, something I recognized when I made the post, which I knew fell within the terms of my sentence.

I find two things interesting. First, that someone would choose that particular post to complain about. Second, that, even though the post was published over two months ago, it took until the final few days of my sentence before I learned it had come into question. It's another indication of the essential meanness exhibited by those in control over others' lives.

Nice to know that the Forum now has the attention of the folks who think it's fun to ruin other folks' lives. Hope they stay tuned.

Well, the pictures in that post offended me (and still do). You had other satires that were far funnier in my opinion. Anyway, glad your probation's lifted. Welcome back to the land of the free and the home of the brave, Bob.

I love a good old shit weasel. What goes around, comes around and when "they" get "their's", it's usually astronomical. One can only write so many letters until the postal carrier goes postal, or your blog implodes or your campaigning "skills" make you the laughing stock of politics.

Of course the shit weasel will never own up to what he's done, hence the name, shit weasel.

Proctology seems to be the only medical training that the state's psychiatrists need, at times. It's why they call them shrinks.

There are, indeed, many malignant outcroppings of human personality out there that go to unusual lengths to intrude and impose on other people's lives. This is one of the reasons I oppose anonymity on posts and in government communications. If people are driven to concoct and prosecute a probation violation charge, they should be made to face the accused.

Your opinions are researched more than Elena Kagan's.

So now the question is if shutting Bob up did any good... and if so, to which side and whose argument? Not that I think the battle is over yet.

I would love to listen to Mr. Newland over breakfast some time. I wonder if he ever dines at that little place across the road from trout fishing tourist pond near that golf course south of Lead, SD. I would love to buy him breakfast there and listen to his rantings. (no hair net required)

PP lists Ellis and Epp as partners...talk about war of voices in ones head.

Bob Newland said...

I can assure you that Bob Ellis from Rapid City (the crazy one) and Todd Epp are not partners.

I couldn't find the listing to which you refer, though, Larry.

Larry -

They and several others participated in a photo repository project so we could openly share politically related photos for common use among the political blogs, subject to terms of use, such as credit.

There are several of us in the blogosphere who don't always grumble at each other.

So, are you grudznick, Pat?
