The whole point of free speech is not to make ideas exempt from criticism but to expose them to it.

Watching Sam's hearing on RCJournal's Cover-It-Live...

http://www.rapidcityjournal.com/html_56214010-1b41-11df-88b5-001cc4c03286.html

Poll at the site has "No Censure" running 97%.

Update 11:15 pm: The Council meeting has been running for over four hours now, and it's some of the best theatre I've ever seen.

Update 12:05 am: I think the public testimony is about to begin.

Wow, that was a long session. Looks like Patti M. and Aaron C. changed their minds. Otherwise, the censure went down 6 yes 3 no, is that correct?

I gave up at 12:30 or so. Heard the vote tally this morning.

Well thanks for the link, Bob. I watched that dang thing to the bitter end, but only because I thought you were on there and might say something. There was a guy named Mike making a lot of comments... was that you, Michael?

I was on there and I said some things. Just maintaining a covert presence.

I did see a "Bob" now that you mention it. Were you the only "Bob?"

I'm posting under a coupla different names on a coupla different places. Public advocacy, etc., y'know.

Also funny to see Art Oakes praising my posts when they come from a different name.

Six of them got it right.
It looks like the good 'ol boys went down, 6-3.
There is only one option when one, even an alderman, refuses to act civilly - force them to behave civilly.
Maybe someday Kooiker will learn how to manage personnel, to supervise large, complex high--budgeted organizations.

Anonymous, you're a butthead.

Anonymous, don't take it personally. Oh wait, of course you won't... you're anonymous!

The mayor should veto this or, at least, explain why he won't veto this matter.

I was watching the LeFort coverage while there. The Michael was me in only one instance, where I pointed out that Kooiker was supported by many from many political factions...

Looks like some people are still believing that "wing-nut" brochure of yours Bill.

Both Adelstein and Hanks have apologized to Kooiker.

Those who would condemn Bill for the brochure, should know he was hired to help win the race. And he was successful, in large part because of the brochure.

I don't think the wingnut flyer had anything to do with this, Mike other than the fact that some of you just can't get over it.

You'll notice that the two known liberal democrats on the council (Martinson and Costello) voted against the censure. And that's the only audience the flyer was mailed to.

Besides, you seem to be saying that the general public somehow voted on this censure. They didn't, as you know. It was a city council action. There were only 9 people voting.

But be careful with goofball comments like that, Mike. If anything, you may end up vindicating the claims made in the flier... i.e. that some of Sam's supporters are a bunch of nut jobs. ;^)
