A kolache sure would be good about now...

Czechoslovakia (Now Slovakia and the Czech Republic) is not particularly well known for its gifts to mankind...aside from beautiful fashion models and female track stars with mustaches.

Among the gifts of Czechoslovakia is the beloved kolache. It certainly beats the Soup With Liver Dumplings recipe here.

Sen. Frank Kloucek's efforts to make the kolache the state pastry has failed. The cannoli won the race. The Pierre Cap-Journal devoted a lot of time and effort to this. Read it here.

I can tell you that I have had cannoli and I have had kolache. The Legislature has committed and error of epic proportion. What say you, Forumpians? What should the state pastry be?

Maybe they could spend more time on the $100 million projected budget deficit...I dunno.

Kolachces forever. How many times do I get to vote?

I have had neither so I need to do some research before I vote. But where?

I think Botticelli's has cannoli's Wayne. May Olive Garden too, but not sure. Now, as for Kolaches? Well, man, you might have to drive to Tabor... unless I can get Suzie's aunt Bonnie to make us some. She does 'em good, mon (...lives in Wagner... bo-hunk territory.)

Besides cannolis! Are you serious?! Name one South Dakota Italian community. One. Ok, maybe Bill Napoli's house. Big deal.

Hey, Wayne, I added a kolache recipe to Mike's post. Enjoy.

OK-of course I have had cannoli. Don't get me wrong I like pasta but cannoli, ragatonie, etc. etc. I don't get the difference. Kolaches I haven't had and because I do like pasta I am anxious to try. I have to say I was confused by the repeated use of the word "pastry" in the opening post--I thought it had to do with either breakfast or desserts.

They are all pastries, Wayne, not pasta.

In most instances when I prove that I am indeed a dufus, I am in the company of family and/or friends--in any event a relatively small group. The thing about blogs is that I am able to demonstrate dufus status to a much larger group. To quote John Wayne, "boy is my face red."

One Forum dufus to another, Wayne, at least as far as I'm concerned, you're still in the presence of family here.

When weather permits, I will make my mother's kolache recipe and take to the soon-to-be goose poop free Canyon Lake Park to share with fellow Forumpians.

Kolache is a danish-like pastry with a filling...usually fruit...usually fig.
