The whole point of free speech is not to make ideas exempt from criticism but to expose them to it.

The Chicago Olympics... winner or loser?
The Repubs are grousing that Obama has bigger fish to fry and shouldn't be flying off to woo the International Olympic Committee. Whaddya say, Forumpians?
So Mike, are you saying that if you were Prez and they were thinking about holding the Winter Olympics in the Black Hills, thus creating billions in new jobs for the next seven years, you wouldn't take a few hours out of your day, show up, and help pitch the gig?
i.e. ...any reason he SHOULDN'T help his home town do a little economic development? Would that mean all presidents should be prohibited from helping their home state... kind of like avoiding nepotism or something?
He's not taking a couple hours out of his day. He's taking two jumbo jets to Copenhagen. And, if I, as President, were faced with the daunting tasks ahead of Obama, the answer is no, I wouldn't go. Should the folks in the Black Hills wish to attract this sort of attraction, then they can take the financial risks involved in pitching it. I would not ask U.S. taxpayers to pay for my wife and I to take separate jets to Copenhagen.
At least Chicago slum lords are not going to be making a killing on an Olympic park in their neighborhoods. And even the mighty O couldn't make the Olympic committee bow down and worship at his altar this time. Bet he was surprised!! His star is fading, fading, fading.
