Uh oh. Who owns Jim Shaw's ass?

The Rapid City Journal website just posted this piece, to which I was alerted by Larry Kurtz.
Former Rapid City mayor Jim Shaw was arrested Tuesday afternoon after failing to stop for an officer.
Shaw, 65, is accused of speeding, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and obstructing police, according to a news release from the Rapid City Police Department.
Around 2:45 p.m., an officer was patrolling on East Mall Drive, spotted a vehicle traveling 52 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-hour zone and attempted to pull over the driver.

Shaw continued for several blocks before stopping at a red light at East Mall Drive and LaCrosse Street. The officer exited his vehicle and approached the driver who took off when the traffic light turned green.

Shaw traveled through the intersection and continued for another block before stopping.

The former mayor jumped out of the vehicle and refused to follow the officer’s commands. The officer drew his duty weapon for safety reasons and Shaw continued to be non compliant. Additional officers arrived to assist and Shaw was arrested and taken to Pennington County Jail.

The case has been forwarded to the Pennington County State’s Attorney.
Do I smell scotch? Or is it crank?

If this weren't so sad, it would be funny. Okay, it's funny anyway.

"The officer drew his duty weapon for safety reasons."

Why, when a cop pulls a gun, does it enhance "safety," but if I drew a gun in the same situation it would be called a "threat to safety?"

He must have been afraid Jim Shaw was going to beat him up...

He pulled his gun to get Jim's unruly Irish ass into the cop car, I'm thinking.

He was in a hurry to use the new $500,000 outdoor bathroom on Omaha Street.

I guess it could have happened before but I just never saw it. WTF Batman. Why would a paper do such a thing to its reading public? It makes you wonder how many other times something has been hidden or not reported because of the papers relationship to the person or organization.

My guess would be the Journal wasn't liking the number of comments telling them to get rid of Shaw as an opinion writer. I certainly hope they utilize this opportunity to spare us from any more of his narcissist ramblings.

Unreal - on the cusp of our officers shot while on duty- that he would have the audacity to say they "overreacted".

"Allender said it is the police officer's responsibility — not the driver's — to find a safe place for a traffic stop."

Oh, bullshit. Cops often stop cars anyplace without apparent concern for other traffic. They often have no apparent regard for allowing a car to proceed to a place where they can stop it without blocking traffic or causing danger to themselves, the car they stop, or other traffic.

Sounds like a big misunderstanding. I can see the endearingly excitable Mayor Shaw overreacting a little bit (maybe more than a little bit), but this is no big deal in my opinion.

It's a funny deal in my opinion. Most around my circle think so. Everyone is chuckling.

Was Shaw driving his Porche? Cop's brain clicks---- Obvious drug runner.

What were the cop's orders to Shaw? Get down on your knees in the middle of traffic?

Rapid City would be better off with a bunch of signs that show your actual speed than a whole flock of traffic cops making more hazards than solving.

Um, wasn't Shaw in the military? And he claims he was "afraid" of the officer and the gun?
