...this somewhat enigmatic building "in a small MN town." Grain elevator/Russian Orthodox Church?

Apologize for the double post but I have to say in my defense that your two words have been so graphically weird in the past couple of weeks that I have been getting them wrong two or three times and have given up more than once. Tonight I assumed that I had gotten them wrong.

They have improved since I looked at them a couple of days ago. After I am logged in, the words don't appear when I make comments, so I'm not as conscious of them as Foruminants are.

Good point. Nothing like small towns to find oddities and creative uses of whatever is available. I like to explore those small towns. If they no longer have a school, the building is nearly always still there, and repurposed to something new. I look for that to see what they've done with it.

There is a little town, (Don't recall the name), in northeastern SD, about 20 miles from MN, that holds one of my top oddities:

In one of the many open lots, there is a tripod of wooden poles, like you might create to start a bonfire. It's much more than 3 poles though, and they are very tall, like power poles. They look old and rotting. If they did start those things on fire they'd probably burn down the entire town. It had to take a lot of work and equipment to arrange them that way.

Why in the world would anyone do that?

The thing is, I can imagine a small group of local guys deciding on a hot summer weekend, that one of them would head for the liquor store to bring back some cold ones, while the rest gathered up a boom of some kind to hoist up that old pile of poles the utility company left years ago.

Crazy.

We need a picture of that, D.E.

As I view this photo again, I have decided that I have been most affected by its lonely look. I say that realizing that there are probably several other buildings nearby that would entirely change the mood if they were included.

You are right Bob.

If I happen to be in that little town again, I will take a photo of the mega-bonfire.
