Questions for candidates

I intend to contact all mayoral and council candidates and ask them to answer Forumpian questions. Forumpians are invited to ask them here and I will relay them via e-mail and post their responses verbatum.

Please, don't waste my time with leading questions or "when did you stop beating your wife? questions.

Please ask questions that we could expect all candidates for a position to answer...in other words don't ask a candidate-specific question like: Mr. Hanks, can you explain why your pothole hotline is necessary? Rather, ask all the candidates their thoughts about the pothole hotline and streets in general.

Once I've gathered all the e-mails, I will post their answers as I receive them. Each question and each response will have a separate string, so if you wish to have a dialogue with a specific candidate you could, if they choose to participate.

Warning to all: I'm not going to allow this to get ugly. No libel, which means if you can't prove what you say, don't say it. If you can prove it, provide the proof at the time you make the post. No personal attacks. The name of this blog is Decorum Forum. I expect civility.

Larry,

What can a mayor do to help save Public Broadcasting? It's like asking the city council to declare war on Iraq. Wrong legislative body, wrong government executive.

The past decade has brought development, but little is from private investment. All of the major projects are funded by TIF's(Rushmore Crossing), Vision 2012 funds(Airport facelift) or federal funds(Ellsworth). Is the new norm public/private funds? Are you concerned this practice will place too much of a financial risk on the city taxpayers?

I would like Hanks to tell us if the same folks that engineered the wing-nut flier are working for him on this campaign, thanks

On occasion city employees drive city vehicles home after work, in and out of city limits. Will this practice continue in your administration?

Seems like anyone asking questions of the candidates should be required to use their real name. This is, afterall, about open and transparent government, right?

I'd hate to think that there were sock puppet posters here. Especially if they are in City, County or State government. I say, if you want to play, come out into the sunshine. Don't you think, Mike?

My question for Sam would be, why has he come out almost 100% negative right out of the shoot?

Also, did he check with Mad Magazine before using the Alfred E. Newman character in his Facebook ads?

And finally, has he read the Facebook rules of conduct about posting false or misleading information in ads?

The matter is probably moot, Bill. For the record, though, I agree.

Weifenbach has declined to participate. I think he is an essential component to really giving readers an understanding of where people stand.

I understand and respect his decision. But it does seem silly to proceed without one of the major players.

Mike, progressive city governments routinely pass resolutions that make political statements. Bozeman passed one that supports an ACLU lawsuit on behalf of same-sex couples.

Bill Fleming said...

Yeah, too bad indeed. Were the other guys willing, Mike?

So one guy won't play. Let's play without him.

I've received only one affirmative. Haven't heard from others.

Bill - why the need for a real name just to ask a question ? I didnt see any names of the authors on the wing nut flier. I didnt make any accusations, I just asked a question.

'Bill - why the need for a real name just to ask a question ?'

You can ask all the questions you want. But if you want an answer, use your name.

Bill,
"You can ask all the questions you want. But if you want an answer, use your name."

I thought the questions were for the candidates. I also doubt you would answer me even if I used my real name.

Give it a shot.

I suspect Michael has the experience to run this blog without the expert advice on how questions are chosen, asked or who can ask. Where has all this help been for the last 12 months?

On the other hand why not expose the ghost riders of this great city? Me thinks they are smart enough to use pawns rather than monikers satisfying those small rules.

Bill Fleming said...

yes, Les, even as they claim to want open and transparent government. it will backfire on them.
