The whole point of free speech is not to make ideas exempt from criticism but to expose them to it.

It's only a crime if you get caught.

About two years ago I called Gordon Howie because I had heard he had mentioned to someone that he wasn’t opposed to therapeutic use of cannabis. We had a short, rather unsatisfactory conversation.

He said he’d like to see the results of “double-blind studies” showing therapeutic benefit from cannabis use. I said I had about 200 such studies, demonstrating at the very least that some people with a variety of physical ailments found relief from symptoms of those ailments.

He talked a little bit about the “message to children” crap. Then he said, “Look, if I had a medical situation that could be cured or helped or whatever with marijuana, I’d just go get some and use it. If it caused a problem, I’d deal with it then.”

That was the second time that a state legislator had said to me (I paraphrase), “If these disgusting people have disgusting diseases that get helped with marijuana, then just put them in jail for not staying private with their disgusting problems.”

You may remember Howie’s wife got popped for DWI this year, after which he blamed it on prescription drugs, as if that was better.

Howie later denied saying what he said. I asked him to tell me again what he said, but he would not respond. If he reads this, he can tell me what he said.

Apparently Howie thinks it’s only a crime if you get caught.

Mr. Newland, when I see you at the Wrangler Cafe next time, I will check your eyes for bloodshottedness.

I kid, I kid. Seriously, you think this think won't get voted down by the malicious among us?

His tax situation would lend credibility to the point of your argument.

Grud, whoever you are, the joke is wearing pretty thin.

Want to have breakfast? Fine. Set a date and we'll meet. Until then, you might as well not post, because your little quips add nothing, and you act like a flaky jerk. I will delete you.

Yes, the ignorant malicious among you might vote this down.
