Is Hadcock gunnin' for Hanks?

The City Council is "wrestling" with the budget, according to a Journal story that you can read here.

What is unusual about this report is not that the council is struggling with budget process. They always do. It may have something to do with the mayor providing a budget that spends more than last year, yet is called a zero growth budget...

What is unusual this year is Ward 2 Alderwoman Deb Hadcock's adversarial position. She usually has her nose pretty far up the mayor's wazoo. (There have been times I was surprised either could walk.)

There has been some talk of Hadcock running for mayor in 2011, but until now, I hadn't given it much thought – mostly because I can't think of anything more ridiculous.

But there she was, Little Miss Articulate:
"We can say all day zero-growth budget, but I'm not impressed with our cost-effective spending," she said. "There has got to be a change in how we do business in Rapid City."

I don't know about you Forumpians, but those look like campaign words to me.

Hadcock will face a difficult council re-election race in Ward 2, even if she's only challenged by a 3-legged, one-eared, blue-tick hound named Lucky. She was right there with Hanks during the abomination that was the Kooiker censure.

Kooiker is dearly loved by his Ward 2 constituents, and they aren't likely to take to kindly to Ms. Hadcock taking part in what the vast majority of Rapid City voters saw as a witch hunt.

So maybe she thinks we weren't paying attention in the other Rapid City wards and hopes she has a shot at unseating Hanks, while desperately losing her own ward. I dunno...seems pretty unlikely. Maybe she should take one of her famous taxpayer financed junkets ("we're entitled to perks!" -- remember that?) where she could sit poolside, eating her bon bons (on her per diem) to consider her election season options.

I still chuckle over this.

Debra Hadcock's predecessor in the seat she now holds was named Tom Murphy. He announced one day that he was changing his name to Marla Marissa Murphy, and was undergoing the physical transformation that would help make sense of that name.

Debra Hadcock was the only aspirant to the seat.

Deb's as clueless as Ines Sainz and as opportunistic as a dung beetle.

You mean if she sees a turd, she has to roll it?

and bury it.

Hadcock has been sharply attacking Hanks at council meetings for a few months now - for example, she charged that Hanks acted unethically by voting on the billboards. No doubt about it, she is targeting him - I do not know why - but a run for Mayor makes sense.

Of course, she has no business being a council member, much less Mayor. Her undoing, like the ultimate undoing of several others, is going to the Kooiker censure.
