  1. War is merely the pursuit of policy through other means. Politics, war, and economics - each requires legitimacy to survive. War is supposed to be a legitimate use of the state's monopoly of violence to pursue just resolution. When the war, the means of the war is illegitimate in the eyes of the local population (not the US population)the local population will not accept an imposed political resolution in the long run.

    We lost Afghanistan years ago; and now are at risk of also losing Pakistan. We need to declare victory and leave. We cannot afford an empire of over 730 military bases spanning the globe. Look at the former British Empire as that may well be the US's future.
