What's one without the other, anyway?

House Bill 1241 passed in Pierre yesterday. It will allow the sale and discharge of fireworks from Dec. 23 through Jan. 2 if the gov signs it. Having passed in the House and through a Senate committee, it was being argued in the Senate chamber, when Sen. Vehle said, in opposition (audio file if you want to listen), "We don't allow sales of alcohol on Christmas day or Christmas eve, but we're gonna allow fireworks? Please don't."

Fireworks over Christmas? Sounds like a blast. Just two problems:

(1) How many of your local fireworks stands have heat?

(2) How much fun is it to stand outside in 20-below windchill trying to keep your punk lit?

Next holiday business opportunity for some enterprising South Dakotan: method to hook up fireworks to automobile remote starting unit.
