This lion was not killed near Hermosa

[Update: Nov. 12] So, it turns out this was a hoax. Apparently this cougar has been killed in several states. Click here.

My daughter sent the picture and this story:

"Here is a photo of a cougar killed 5 miles west of Hermosa, SD. The guy who shot it is 6 foot tall and weighs about 220 lbs. He was in a deer stand and saw the cat pass him downwind. He then saw it pass him upwind. When the cat passed him again (closer this time) downwind, he knew that it was hunting him. So, boom."

I'm surprised that I haven't seen or heard anything on the news. Any way you estimate, "5 miles west of Hermosa" put this cat within a 20-minute trot of where I step outside and take a leak every night about 11 pm.

Whiz. Pounce. Gulp. Burp. I'm a man of constant terror.

Or... the cat was hunting the same deer the guy was hunting. So... boom.

Or... the cat was hunting Major Hasan, being unaware he was already in custody.

Tree stand and with a rifle - good grief, where's the sense of adventure, of fairness. You want high adventure with kitty cats - try this.

Wear camouflage from head to toe, to include gloves and face mask. Sprinkle cow elk scent on a part of your clothes. Quietly move through the forest in shadows a few minutes after sunset - stopping every few minutes to softly blow on a lost elk calf call. Then grip your bow when at ten yards you see the crouching cougar waiting for you to step out from behind a pine.

That ain't as chilling as seein' the red-and-blues pop on behind you.
