Obama and his promises

Among the many things President Obama promised people was that he would respect states' rights with regard to medical marijuana. He has made good on that promise with a justice department memo regarding marijuana enforcement in states where medical marijuana is legal.

Read about it here.

We all know that one of our compatriots here is prevented by the court from advocating for the legalization of medical marijuana. It is neither my topic, nor my passion. And, I often fall behind when trying to keep up with issues about which I am passionate. So, I apologize for not getting something on this posted earlier.

My own comment is that this is a positive sign as I have long agreed with William F. Buckley, Jr. about the effectiveness of the war on drugs. The war is lost, because it was dumb, ill-conceived, anti-American and impossible to win in the first place. It has been an expensive war that has cost Americans billions of tax dollars and unbelievable social pain and suffering.

This is a good step in the right direction.

  2. Anyone who is on the wrong side of this issue is, first and foremost, simply wrong on the merits.

But they are also, beyond any shadow of a doubt, on the wrong side of history.

It's only a matter of time before laws preventing the use of marijuana for medical purposes are recognized to be abysmally and absolutely flawed.

The views of idiots like Powers and Ellis notwithstanding.
